CRL Bristol recently spent a couple of days in Plymouth, working for the charity Young Devon.

Young Devon work with 16–19-year-olds, who need support, accommodation, and training to help them get back on track, or to stay on track and build their own futures.

It was late 2022 when we tendered a package of 5 car park projects for Plymouth City Council and we teamed up with Young Devon as part of our Social Value commitment on the project. Almost a year later, we got stuck into stripping apart premises bought by the charity to give them a blank canvas to create much needed apartments.

A combined team of staff and operatives from CRL Bristol and our subcontractors, Marshway Contracts Ltd and TED Contractors Ltd spent 2 days tearing apart an old Glaziers premises. In total close on 7 tonnes of fixtures, fittings, wall panels, ceilings and a wide array of general junk was removed and loaded into a 40yd skip (which unfortunately was situated on the other side of the city centre due to space restrictions!). Needless to say, a masterclass in skip filling was necessary to get it all in!

Young Devon were both amazed and overjoyed at what was achieved over the 2 days we spent on site and strip out has enabled them to now start planning their next step in their project. We wish them every success with their endeavour.

My sincere thanks to all involved in making this happen.
