In December 2021 the Bristol office was awarded a 4-year framework for the repair and refurbishment of 82 Fire Drill Towers within Mid & West Wales. The height of the towers range from approximately 14m to 26m with the majority being concrete structures, however there are also several steel and brick towers which will require repairs.

The works include an initial assessment of each tower to determine the correct/optimum access requirements, inspection/surveying of all concrete, brickwork, timber, and steel on each individual tower. This information is then collated in order to provide a detailed quotation for the client. The order in which these towers are repaired and refurbished is determined by a priority list provided by the client after receiving feedback from their station managers regarding the condition of the tower.

Works on these fire towers generally includes concrete repairs, brickwork repairs, brickwork repointing, metal work repairs/replacement, timber repairs/replacement, pressure washing of all exposed concrete surfaces, the application of an anti-carbonation coatings to the concrete elements and application of a waterproof coating to the brickwork.

Roger Southwell and Jack Davies have to date been working very closely with the Client (Mid & West Wales Fire Service) discussing and helping to prioritise the fire drill training towers that are not in use due to unsafe conditions. The main objective of the works is to provide a sound structure for the fire crews to carry out their fire training drills safely.
