Following CRL’s successful inclusion on the United Utilities AMP8 Framework, delivering remedial works to storage assets across their network, we have already secured several schemes which are progressing well.
These projects align closely with the specialist repair and refurbishment activities we deliver across our existing water frameworks, while also providing CRL with the opportunity to further expand our involvement in the wider civil engineering elements associated with each site. With the majority of current and upcoming opportunities located across Cumbria, we are excited to continue developing this area of the business over the next 12 months. The future is certainly looking positive for CRL within the water sector.
To support this continued growth, we have expanded our team. Congratulations to Rich Iley on his recent promotion to Supervisor; he has settled into the role exceptionally well and has already proven to be a valuable asset to the business. We are also continuing our recruitment drive, with Matt Robinson and myself focused on attracting high-quality site personnel to support our increasing workload and future opportunities.

Arneside SR - A typical CRL reservoir refurbishment scheme, involving the installation of the Sika Combiflex system to all internal joints, hatch lifting and rebedding, and refurbishment of the upstands. The scheme presented several challenges, primarily due to the site logistics and remote location within the Cumbrian woodland. However, through effective planning and teamwork, these challenges were successfully overcome, allowing the works to be completed and the asset returned to service.
Churchill SR - A larger and more complex scheme, providing CRL with the opportunity to demonstrate our wider repair, refurbishment, and civil engineering capabilities. The works have included the reinstatement of a collapsed embankment, installation of new reservoir edging boards, approximately 350m of internal overbanding, asbestos removal works, and ladder installation. The scheme is progressing well and is expected to complete within the next few weeks. The team has worked hard to manage the challenges associated with delivering a complex project and remains focused on achieving a successful completion and handover for United Utilities.
Looking ahead, United Utilities have advised that workloads are expected to increase significantly from September onwards. We will continue to strengthen our workforce, support our growing portfolio of work, and maintain the high standards of delivery, quality, and service that United Utilities has come to expect from CRL.
