Following on from the contract to provide ECI advice to Skanska and Hampshire County Council, the Bristol Team is making excellent progress on the repair and cathodic protection of the viaduct over the Redbridge viaduct that links Totton to Southampton and the M271.

With 2 main types of structures; leaf piers and beam and column bents, the team have had to employ a full range of repair techniques, whilst maintaining structural integrity of the badly deteriorated structure. These works have been particularly difficult in tidal conditions that have limited access to a few hours on lower scaffold sections and the fact the site is based in a SSSI so full containment and treatment of all waste water has been required.

The Cathodic Protection system has varied from mesh overlay on the leaf piers to discrete anodes on the bents.
Works are due for completion in late summer when it is hoped to proceed onto the next phase of works on the viaduct.
