Pacific House is a bright, contemporary working space for businesses. This prominent office building is close to Junction 11 of the M4 and is only a short distance from Reading town centre.

Following a competitive tender process, CRL Mitcham secured the contract to refurbish the Podium Car Park at Pacific House in Reading. The reinforced concrete structure had deteriorated due to failed waterproofing and leaking expansion joints.

Collaborating closely with the appointed engineers, CRL reviewed the car park design and implemented an effective solution to halt water ingress and prevent further structural degradation.
The refurbishment primarily involved installing new mechanical expansion joints and applying a partially reinforced waterproofing membrane to the exposed deck. Heavy-duty variants were used in high-wear areas, alongside drainage enhancements, upgraded statutory signage, and anti-carbonation coatings to protect the exposed concrete parapet walls.

Externally, the hardstanding was re-lined, and the car park’s external elevations were painted in anthracite grey to complement the adjacent office buildings, which are also undergoing renovation.

Inside the ground-floor car park, new lighting was installed to enhance safety and improve energy efficiency. The system incorporates integrated PIR sensors, adjusting lux levels based on motion detection.
The project was successfully completed in December within 11 weeks, with localised closures and temporary traffic management measures ensuring the parking facility remained operational throughout.

This refurbishment, at a cost of £600k has not only extended the lifespan of the structure but also enhanced the overall safety and aesthetics of the facility.
