Ordnance Road  - RIBA London Award 2019
Buxton Associates are very proud to announce that one of our recent projects has received an RIBA award.

We were appointed by London Borough of Enfield to provide structural design for the housing development on Ordnance Road, Enfield. The development consists of eleven three-storey terraced townhouses, with four bungalows on a newly created mews behind them.

The houses are constructed using traditional materials, with concrete, masonry, brickwork, engineered timber and steel beams all used. There was also a particular requirement for self-supporting, traditionally constructed brick arches. These create archways, which form the recesses for each front door, giving each house a distinct identity, sheltering it and forming what the architect calls a “social threshold, an act of deliberate place making “providing space to linger and chat to neighbours”’.

The £3m development was completed in late 2018, with all the units offered unfurnished for ‘social rent’. All social housing should aspire to this standard.
