Southbound Switchover Achieved
Following a challenging 13 months of work for the CRL team, the southbound carriageway was finally opened to traffic on Monday 10th September. The last six weeks have seen a huge push to apply waterproofing, install buried joints, lay new asphalt, install new lighting systems and carry out a managed switch over five nights. CRL has played a significant part of the big push, undertaking last minute repairs with fast set materials in advance of surfacing works.

Tributes and thanks have been paid by Highways England’s Area Manager and BMV’s Project Director
“Today marks an important milestone for the scheme and an opportunity for me to thank the whole team for the immense amount of work completed so far. The scale of this project is unprecedented for many reasons and we can all be proud of our achievements as part of that.”

Andy Butterfield – Highways England

“As you will know we successfully completed the 1st phase of the TM switch onto the new Southbound carriageway last night. The TM switch works will continue over the next few nights and by the morning of Monday 10th September we will have diverted all traffic (SB & NB) onto the new deck.
This is a significant milestone for the M5 Oldbury Team and it is down to the team’s hard work, long hours and perseverance that has made this happen.
I would like to pass on the board’s and my personal Thanks to all of you for this work. It is very much appreciated. Well done & Thank you”
