On the nights of the 8th and 9th January 2021, CRL installed 4no. pairs of braced steel bridge beams as part of the bridge replacement works at junction 2 of the M53 motorway.

Each pair of beams had the permanent soffit shutters installed prior to delivery on site so as to save time afterwards. This made a total weight of approximately 24 tonnes for each pair of beams, and these were lifted into place using a 350 tonne crane.

The beams were fixed directly onto the spherical bearings which were loosely installed and levelled up on the re-constructed half joints.
