Commercial Refurb and Rebuild
The refurbishment of Kew Studios and rebuild of Kew Works started on site in late 2022. This is a £9m scheme to create modern commercial space on the site of the former Jigsaw clothing company head offices.

The Studios building dates back to the 18th century and was part of the West Park estate; Sir William Hooker, who became director of Kew Gardens in 1841, lived at West Park. In later years the building became the home of Kent Brothers Electric Wire Company where cotton, silk and enamel instrument wires were manufactured.

The Kew Works building has now been removed and the new steel frame installed; a front and rear extension have been added and a new first floor, increasing the net lettable area by 850m2 but without raising the ridge line.

Work was progressing well until March.

And then the contractor went bust…

Works have just recommenced – completion expected early 2024.
