Lifespan Structures have now delivered over 35 FRP composite bridges in the UK. Samuely & Partners assist us with structural design services for the parapets and foundations while CRL provide the installation service when needed.

The majority of our clients are local authorities and often they place repeat orders for further schemes. As an example, the London Borough of Enfield have just installed their 5th and 6th bridges this time in Albany Park. Each bridge has galvanised steel, powder coated bespoke parapets to the Client’s design.

Lifespan provided an Approval in Principle (AIP) for the Client and proceeded to design the two bridges followed by manufacture and delivery to site ready for installation.

Each bridge deck was moulded in one piece and delivered to site complete with surfacing and ready for the steel parapet to be attached on site. The service life is 100 years with minimal maintenance required.

The weight of each deck was 3500Kg so the bridges could be easily lifted into place using a lorry mounted hiab crane. This significantly reduces installation costs and increases the safety for the site personnel. Both bridges were installed in one day by the contractor.

The Company is now beginning to focus on vehicle bridges and has just been awarded the first contract to design and supply two bridges for Forestry England. These will be installed in Ennerdale Forest, Cumbria.
